The oil cartel on Thursday released a statement that did not formally endorse production cuts, but individual countries announced voluntary reductions totaling 2.2 million barrels per day for the first quarter of 2024. Russia said it will cut supply by 300,000 barrels per day of crude and 200,000 barrels per day of petroleum products over the same period. Opinion: The big question about the Israel-Hamas truce

We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. And then it was back to war — a conflict in which some 8.5 million soldiers from all sides would ultimately die. The timing of the Israel-Hamas truce that took effect Friday had nothing to do with a holiday. But there is also the possibility that this truce won’t last much longer than the one in 1914. “The deal arguably strengthens Hamas, allowing it to claim credit, catch its breath and regroup,” wrote Frida Ghitis.

"Die with Zero" author Bill Perkins has an equation to anyone who wants to retire comfortably. Sometimes, traditional retirement calculations can be more than you really need to save in order to retire comfortably. Datalign Advisory - Product Name Only makes finding a financial advisor specific to your needs easier than ever. This is not uncommon: "One-third of all retirees actually increased their assets after retirement," Perkins writes. He caveats that it's a good idea to double check that this formula will work for you with a financial advisor or planner you trust.

He says there is "asymmetric risk to the upside," citing factors such as supply disruptions, the possibility of a "widening war" and the United States "maybe not turning such a blind eye to sanctions violations."

Bill Perkins wants to spend every penny before he dies, he explains in his book "Die With Zero." He thinks most people are saving too much for retirement, given that a lot of it goes unused. Instead of leaving a large inheritance, he'd rather use his money on experiences, helping his children while they're starting out, and spending the money on his needs. While some people did use up their money, many retirees actually see their net worth increase with time. "Retirees with less than $200,000 saved up for retirement ... had spent down only one quarter of their assets 18 years after retirement."

Bill Perkins, who for 24 years as a legislator from Harlem championed his community — by, among other things, challenging Donald J. Trump’s aggressive demand for the death penalty when five teenagers, who were later exonerated, were arrested in connection with a rape in Central Park in 1989 — died on Tuesday at his home in Manhattan. His death was announced by his wife, Pamela Green Perkins. She did not give a cause, but Mr. Perkins had undergone treatment for colon cancer and, according to Richard Fife, a family spokesman, had developed dementia. In 1989, when five Black and Hispanic teenagers were charged with the rape of a white jogger in Central Park, Mr. Perkins was among the first Black civic leaders to publicly raise questions about the evidence and to suggest that there had been a rush to judgment. At the time he was president of the tenants’ association of Schomburg Plaza, the Manhattan apartment complex where several of the defendants lived.

Inheritances are useless by the time they're received, writes Bill Perkins in "Die with Zero." Gifting money earlier when it will do the most good is a smarter move, Perkins writes. In his book, "Die with Zero," he explains how he hopes to spend all the money he has before he dies. For that reason, Perkins writes that the money could be better used earlier in life. This pattern of later-in-life inheritances is something that Perkins hopes his "Die with Zero" strategy reverses.
